Presentation of Colors (Indoor Flag Ceremony)

Narrator (speaks from the front of the room near flag bases or stands) Actions (of the color guard)
  • “Attention.”
  • “Will the audience please rise?”
  • (pause until all are standing)
  • Color guard waits in the back of the room for the audience to stand and become quiet.
  • “Color guard, advance.”
  • Color guard advances to the front of the room.
  • Both flags are carried straight up
  • Wide aisle: all advance at once — Guard, US Flag Bearer (on marching right*), Pack Flag Bearer, Guard
  • Narrow aisle:   advance in single file – Guard, US Flag Bearer, Pack Flag Bearer, Guard
  • Bearers and Guards take their places near the flag bases or stands.
  • They turn and face the audience, still holding the flags straight up.
  • “Hand salute.”
  • Everyone, with the exception of the bearers & guards, salutes the flag.
  • Cubs do the Cub Scout salute.
  • Audience places their hand over their heart.
  • “Please repeat with me the Pledge of Allegiance.”
  • The Bearers and Guards stand at attention and continue to hold the flags.
  • The Pack flag is tilted forward so that the US Flag stands taller.
  • The Bearers and Guards do not recite the Pledge.
  • “Two”
  • Everyone stops saluting.
  • The Pack Flag is raised upright.
  • “Color Guard, post the colors.”
  • The Pack Flag is placed into its base or stand.  The Bearer & Guard step back into place facing the flag.
  • The US Flag is place into its base or stand.  The Bearer & Guard step back into place facing the flag.
  • All Bearers and Guards salute the US flag.
  • “Color Guard, dismissed.”
  • The US Flag Guard leads the boys to the back of the room in a single file. (Guard, US Flag Bearer, Pack Flag Bearer, Guard)
  • The Narrator follows last.

* “Marching Right” is considered the right side from the marcher’s point of view.
